International businessman Tim Penn recently spent the day with the MFL department and Year 8 students.  The purpose of the day was to discuss the importance of languages in the current post Brexit climate.  Students had the opportunity to discuss the future benefits of learning a foreign language.

Bangor University graduate Liam, a Languages Ambassador, explained the Erasmus scheme and shared his experiences working in Strasbourg.  This sowed the seed of incorporating an international dimension to any career or university course. Students had an opportunity to create their own personal “brand” and brainstormed ideas to work out what makes them stand out from the crowd in the international work place.

Many thanks to Tim and Liam for providing so much food for thought.

  • Pupil Language Ambassador Training event

At the end of last half term, Ysgol Eirias hosted an incredibly successful PLA Training event for pupils all over the GwE region.

The aim of the event was to help pupils to prepare for their exciting and challenging roles as Pupil Language Ambassadors within their schools. The 5 pupils selected as PLAs at Ysgol Eirias are:

    Niamh Chamberlain

    Max Wagner

    Annie Darbyshire

    Lily Harding

    Amelie Connolly

These pupils will play a key role in school by promoting the value of Modern Foreign language learning and they already have some creative and innovative ideas as to how they will go about doing this. We wish them all the very best in their new roles.

  • Spelling Bee Competition final
    in News

On Wednesday, July 5th, four of our students took part in the national final of the Spelling Bee Competition, organised in Aberystwyth by Routes into Languages.

Over 5000 pupils entered the competition in Wales and Ysgol Eirias was proudly represented by Freya Winters-Jones and Oscar Percival, both German students from 7B, and our French students Amber Dyke from 7O and Bethany Morgan from 7C.

They thoroughly enjoyed competing with students from other schools and will keep good memories of the day.

One of the many positive aspects of the competition highlighted by our students is that they recognised the usefulness of learning new vocabulary and how they will use their knowledge both in classroom activities and in their homework tasks.

We wish all our students here at Ysgol Eirias a very good summer holiday and continued success for next year as foreign language learners.
